HIV/AIDS Prevention Education Parent Information Night - September 24: In accordance with the AIDS Omnibus Act passed by the Washington State Legislature, HIV/AIDS prevention education is a mandatory part of our curriculum starting in Grade 5 through Grade 12. To comply with this mandate, Clarkston School District is hosting a Parent Information Night on September 24, 2024, at 6:00 p.m. at the Educator Support Center (1294 Chestnut). This session will provide an overview of the HIV/AIDS prevention curriculum. Parents are invited to review the materials in advance. If, after attending the presentation, you wish to opt your student out of the curriculum, you may do so in writing.

Highland Elementary School Placed in Temporary Lockdown as a Precaution -- This morning, at approximately 8:15 a.m., a report was made regarding a parent who was seen carrying a firearm while dropping off their child near Highland Elementary. Law enforcement was immediately contacted, and an officer promptly arrived on the scene. The parent was located across the street from school property, where it is legally permissible to carry a firearm. As a precautionary measure, Highland Elementary was placed in a temporary lockdown which lasted approximately five minutes. Our School Resource Officer spoke with the parent to address the situation and emphasized the seriousness, especially given the current context. The parent was cooperative and understood the concerns raised. At no time was the safety of students or staff at risk, and we will continue to work closely with law enforcement to ensure the security of our school community. Thank you for your understanding and support.
